Otaku? Ano yun?

Otaku? Anu yun? Nakakain ba un? O baka naman isang damit o lugar iyon na hindi kilala ng mga tao. Ok guys. Ngayon maliliwanagan kayo, dahil mejo magpaka-anime naman tayo. Since malapit na ang mga conventions and madami na ding nagsusulputang anime related goods sa Pilipinas ngayon. At isa pa, wala din akong maisip na iblog ngayon. Kaya pag-chagaan na lang muna ito sa ngayon. Hehehe. Pero, ano nga ba talaga ang Otaku? Madaming tao ngayon ang nahuhumaling sa anime. At kasama na ako sa mga taong yun. At kung paiikliin natin. Yun! Yun mismo ang isang Otaku. Sabi nga ng isa sa mga kapanalig ko sa relihiyong ito, "we love anime, discuss anime, and share anything you wish about anime... live anime, sleep anime, read anime (manga), dream anime, wear anime, watch anime, and hear anime.. draw anime, costume playing anime, idolizing anime.. eat anime and drink anime." Yan ang madaling description ng isang Otaku. Ay kulang pa pala! Otakus also collect anime.

Kung technical naman at yung mas definitive, eto ang sabi ni kumpareng Wikipedi. Kumpare ko na din si Wikipedia, amp! Hahaha. "Otaku (おたく/オタク?) is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, and video games." Yan. mas definitive nga. Sa sobrang haba, halos hindi maka 50 letters. Hehehe. Pero akalain mo yun, kasama pala ang mga mahihilig sa Bidyo Geyms (isang entry ng aking mabuting ehemplo, alam mo na kung sino yun. Hehehe.) Akala ko pa naman, adik lang ang tawag sa mga ganun, yun pala, Otaku din.

Lahat dun sa nasabi ng aking kapanalig sa relihiyong ito na ibig sabihin ng Otaku, isa na lang ata ang hindi ko nagagawa. Isa-isahin natin. Hmm..

I do love anime. Lalo na kung yung mga tungkol sa astig at magagandang design ng drawing.

We do discuss anime. Sa halos araw-araw na nasa school ako at kasama ko ang mga sira kong katropa (tuloy pati isip ko nasira na din.), halos lahat na ata ng anime na napanood namin, napagusapan na din namin.

Live anime? Hmm.. Sa bagay, tama din naman. We do live anime. Kaya nga ang tingin sa amin ng mga tao, weird. Yun kasi talaga ang pagtanggap ng mga taong hindi nakakarelate sa mga kagustuhan ng mga taong lango at ganid sa anime. Say present nalang pag isa kayo dun sa mga sinasabi ko.

Sleep anime? Hmm.. Ako aminado ako dito sa bagay na 'to. Kadalasan kasi, ang nagpapatulog sakin, anime soundtracks.

Read anime or mas ok siguro kung sabihin kong read manga, pero related pa din sa anime. Hehehe. Dahil bago maging anime, Naguumpisa muna sa pagiging manga. Naturo? Slam dunk? Ghost fighter? Lahat yan nagsimula sa manga. Hindi katulad nila sponge bob, squidwert (squidwort o kung anu man, basta alam ko puset xa, hindi ako magmumura ah. sabi ko PUSET, hindi kung anu pa man. at malamang na nagawa na xang calamares na itinitinda sa tabi-tabi at sinasawsaw sa suka) at dora the explorer at boots(ang kaunauhanang spider monkey na naglalakad ng nakabotang pula) na galing lang sa mga isip ng mga illustrator nilang mas bata pa ata sa isip ng pinsan ko ang isip.

Next please. Dream anime. Sa totoo lang, mejo madalas ding mangyari sakin ito. Yung tipong ako si Allen Walker ng D.Gray-Man o si Tsunayoshi Sawada ng Katekyo Hitman Reborn, o kung sa Pinoy dubbed anime, nagiging Reborn nalang.

Wear anime. Yey! Meron na akong isang anime related na t-shirt. Akatsuki from naruto. Gusto mong makita? Astig kasi eh. Langya, at nanginggit pa.

Watch anime. Uu. Super. To the highest level. I can spend a whole week of free time just to watch anime. Kayo na ang magcompute kung ilang oras yun. Basta per one day, up to 15 hours ko kayang nakatitig sa PC at nanonood ng anime.

Hear anime. Sabi ko nga, halos lullaby nalang para sakin ang anime OST. Na tipong kahit anong pagka-rock, kahit hard metal, basta anime OST. Kaya ng tenga ko. As long as may rhythm syempre.

Draw anime? Animators’ Club member kaya ako sa school namin. Isang club na halos mga katropa ko din ang members. Hahaha. In short, club namin. Hindi ng skul.

Costume play ng anime? Hmmm. Kung tama ako, nasa 3 years na ata kaming nagpplano na magcosplay ng anime characters pero believe me or not, kahit minsan, hindi pa natuloy. Ay teka, once pala, natuloy. Nung club registration day sa school. Pero kahit anung tingin ko, mukang tanga pa din kami nun. Hahaha.

Idolizing anime? Hmm.. Sa ngayon naman, wala pa akong inaidolize na anime character. Hindi ko naman kayang mag ray-gun na tulad ni Eugene o Yu ng Ghost Fighter o Yuyu Hakusho. Hindi din ako ganung katangkad tulad ni Hanabishi Sakuragi na kayang mag-dunk sa ring ng basketball. At lalo naman na hindi ko kayang mag X Burner dahil hindi naman ako si Tsunayoshi Sawada. Pero kahit na wala akong inaidolize, madami akong gustong anime.

Collect anime ba? Tama na ba sayo yung ganito? Click nyo para makita nyo yung full size. Ang konti no? Hehehe. Nakayabang pa. Amp! :))

And last but no the least, eat and drink anime? Hmmm. Tingin ko, lahat nman ng tao, nakakain na at nakainom ng tulad ng mga kinakain at iniinom ng nasa anime.

Ngayon, malinaw na ba sa inyo ang ibig sabihin ng otaku? Kung hindi pa, tingin ko, itry nyong pumunta sa mga conventions. Yun ay kung ganun talaga kayong kainterisado sa isang otaku. Sa November 30, 2009 merong magiging anime convention sa Makati City. Isearch nyo nalang kung saan yung convention na yun sa Makati City. Ang title nung convention ay Hero Nation 2009. O kung hindi nyo naman mahanap, manood kayo sa Hero Channel sa cable nyo. Yung channel na puro anime ata ang palabas. Kung gusto nyong makakita ng sandamukal na otaku, dun kayo magpunta. At hindi lang sandamukal ang makikita nyo, malamang na malunod pa kayo sa sobrang dami.

Sa totoo lang, wala namang masama or unique sa pagiging Otaku. Masaya lang. Una, kasi, masayang manood at mamuhay ng parang anime character lang. Yung tipong ang tingin mo sa sarili mo, parang nalalaglag yung mga bulaklak ng Cherry Blossoms sa kalye habang naglalakad ka o habang papasakay ka ng jip pauwi sa bahay nyo. Pangalawa, pag tinanong ka ng pdeng saguting ng yes or no, pwede mong sagutin ng “Hai!” o “Nai!”, ”iie” yun ay kung isang otaku din ang kausap mo. Kung fluent ka sa Nihonggo, pwede kayong mag-usap na gamit ang Nihonggo pag may natripan kang babae sa jip. Pag gusto mong magpaintay sa kasama mong otaku, pwede mong sabihing “Matte!” imbes na wait o intay. Pag gusto mong sabihing tanga, imbes na tanga o stupid, “Baka” nalang ang sasabhin mo. Mejo maganda nga namang pakinggan.

Otaku din ang nagpasimula nung fashion ng buhok na tinatawag ngayon na Emo fashion. Hindi kayo makapaniwala? Isearch nyo si Trowa Barton ng Gundam Wing sa images ng mga internet search engines. At pagkatapos nun, isearch nyo ang year kung kelan inilabas ang Gundam Wing. Para maniwala kayo na nauna ang fashion statement ni Trowa Barton kesa sa mga Emo-ng ngayon.

Sa makatuwid, kahit hindi animin ng maraming tao na ang turing sa mga Otaku ay "one weird race of human", madaming naging impluwensya ang mga otaku sa mundong ito. Lalo na sa fashion world. Siguro naman ngayon alam nyo na kung ano ang otaku, tama ba? Kung hindi pa din, isearch nyo nalang yung mga karagdagang information tungkol sa dumadaming lahing ito ng tao. Masyado na kasing mahaba ang entry na ito eh. Saka, manonood pa din ako ng anime. Hehehe. Goodluck sa paghahanap. Ciao!~

Thriller... Thriller nights?

Thriller!! Thriller nights... These words are in the famous hit of Michael Jackson in 1980's. The album entitled Thriller has been one of the record holders in the music industry around the world. And, fortunately, today's entry has connection in a way to this hit. Because of the fact that Thriller, like this post is based on Halloween. This will be the second installment of my Halloween themed posts. The first can be found HERE.

If you would remember, the lyrics of the song Thriller has certain words that made it catchy to those who hear it. And as you may have noticed, these words that I am referring to isn't always used in a song. Like for example, ghouls, horror, terror, ghosts and hell are used in the said song. If you could at least cite 5 songs with those lyrics, I may revise this post and refer to those words as commonly used words in a lyrics. But, I doubt that.

Since the last post that featured my Halloween sickness, -in which I could refer as healthy, tackles my top 3 dark lurkers in Halloween, I think, this time, I would be giving some trivia that somehow has a connection to the word Halloween. So, here goes.

*****Hell*****

Hell, as they say in Christian religion, is a world where demons rule. It can also be referred as the demon realm, and the world of fire . They say that hell is where Satan or Lucifer dwells. Souls that rejected Jesus falls here, or so they say. It is also a place of never-ending suffering. Every religion has its own depiction of hell. In Japanese religions such as Buddhism, hell is often called as Naraya or Niraya, and sometimes, Jigoku, like in the Christian belief, hell for Buddhism is also the world of greatest suffering. In Islam, hell is called Jahannam, which was derived from Gehinnom of Hebrew. For Islam, hell or Jahannam is also a place where those who are unfaithful to their religion is punished.

Basically, nobody knows what hell is like. Since no one has came back to life. And described whether there is a heaven or hell beyond life. Ever since religion has been made for the people, hell has been there in their said to be holy book. Since humans cannot be sure if there really is life after death, this knowledge about hell, is, perhaps useless. Since not even Plato came back to life after killing himself just to prove that there is life after death (or so they say).

*****Niflheim*****

Niflheim or Niflheimr is basically the notion between Niflhel and Hel in Norse Mythology. This is I think the equivalent of Hades' Realm in Greek Mythology. Both are known as the land of the dead. The term Niflheim has also been used in an Online Game known as Ragnarok. This can also be called as the Underworld or the realm of spirits. Rarohenga is the term referring to this realm in Maori Mythology. This term has also been used in several Role Playing Game in different gaming consoles. In Egyptian mythology on the other hand, underworld is referred as Duat. Here, Anubis or Osiris, in their respective times and kingdoms, is the ruler and the judge. It is said that when a soul is weighted down by sin, it is eaten by Ammit or Ammut.

The land of the dead may have been there since the world or even before the world began, but like hell, we can't be sure if such world exists. The only known world to us as of now, is the world where we are living, and the world of the spirits (for those with paranormal abilities) which is in parallel with ours. But, since the land of the dead or Niflheim is said to be the realm of spirits, would it be better to just admit that it really exists?

*****Werewolves*****

Werewolves, or also known as human turned wolves or lycanthrope or lycans, are one of the most common mythological creatures that we know. Storytellers describe them as a monster twice the height of an average human and twice or even thrice the strength of an ordinary man. Also, it is said that they devour on human flesh and that a werewolf would howl when the moon is full. They are usually the topic of horror films with a big full moon scene. Some award winning movies of the modern day even used these mythological creatures as one of their casts. Werewolves has the ability to both turn into a wolf or a human. And as I have said in my previous Halloween themed post, werewolves are the natural foe of vampires (or maybe not?). This mythological creature has been very popular in countries like Germany and France.

This mythological creature can have a slice of fact in it. Since it is true that wolves do howl when they see the full moon. But, here in the Philippines, where wolves are next to none, dogs are the substitute howlers and when a dog howls, it doesn't mean that they will turn into a wereDOG or wereGARURUMON, but instead, the elders say that when a dog howls, it sees something that it shouldn't have, or to be more precise, a ghost, or some would even say death. But, even if werewolves are mythical or not, there will be no one to prove its existence, because, after you saw one transform into this beast or monster, it can instantly spell death for you, since they are more agile and they are stronger, you wouldn't have any chance to escape from them.

*****Zombie*****

Zombie... Zombie... Zombie-e-e-e... Zombies are reaminated and mindless human beings. It is also one of the most common lurkers of the dark, although I didn't include these creatures in my top 3. Zombies are considered to be the product of voodoo magic casted upon a corpse. It is said that when a zombie bites you or had a contact with you or even squirts a fluid on you. The virus that is in their bodies will spread throughout your body making you a zombie yourself. Zombies, are also called as undead flesh eaters. These creatures will devour any living human being. Horror films such as Night of the living dead and Dawn of the dead has made zombie as their primary topic. TV series such as Zombie loan even made zombies as their lead protagonist.

Even if these creatures really exists or not, I believe that humans shouldn't play with another human's life. And even if there really is an art to revive the dead (necromancy), I think, making a zombie isn't the type of thing that a human being will do. But, either way, no case of zombie attack has been reported. And only tales are made for them to exists.

That should be enough for my final entry that tackles Halloween. Since it will be Hallow's eve in a few days' time, don't forget to give respect to those who departed this world. Remember to offer your prayers to them and leave some flowers on their graves. And even if they were to scare you this coming Halloween by letting you know that they are watching you, be thankful that they have remembered you. And since this will be my last entry with a Halloween theme, may you have a spooky Hallow's eve ahead of you.

My only choice

WARNING: This entry is full of things that I may or may not be able to convey to anybody. This may be your first time hearing or reading the things in this entry from me. If in some way, I accidentally hurt anybody through words written here, I apologize. Again, you've been warned.

Choices, are processes that one has to undergo several times in order to survive in life and in this world. In order to live on, one must select his choices very wisely, or else, his life would be meaningless.

I am the only son of our family. I don't have any brother or sister that can support me whenever I am feeling down. Since I was a child, many bullies have come to taunt me, and since my parents are both strict back then, I always think that it is better to be bullied than to take a fight head on. At least, if you keep the bullies from bullying you, it will never taint the respect of other people towards your parents.

My father, is an OFW, or an Oversees Filipino Worker. My mother on the other hand, is a teacher and a housewife. My father left for work in abroad when I was just three. He occasionally come home once every two years back then. And for the "little" me, it was one of my happiest events throughout the last two years. But, his stay with us, is always so short. Short enough that I don't want time to pass by. Just for mainly two reasons, first, I don't want to see my mom crying because I am crying. Second, I just want our family to be completed. Many times did my mom told me, that they were sacrificing for my sake. And back then, even though I am just a child. I've always hated when she tells me that. But, since I respect them a lot, I just smiled and hugged my mom. Although, it was painful for me.

But, deep down inside, I just want to cry. It even came to a point where I just want to stop studying so that we can be together again. I may sound fake, but I treasure my family more than anyone could ever think.

Time passed, days became weeks, weeks became months and soon enough, without me realizing it, I've endured more and more pain just to smile when they are in front of me. I learned to fake my smiles just to hide the depression that is slowly eating me. I've learned to endure every painful thing that came my way just to make sure that my family never worries about me. It became so painful that sometimes, I just want to feel physical pain for the hope that it can ease the pain that I am feeling.

Back then, I always say things that made my friends wonder if I am really at the same age as them. And their reactions always makes me laugh. I became like this not because I want to be like this, but because, I don't have any other choices. I have to support my mom and my family emotionally in the place of my father. Even though I am just a kid back then, what else can I do? This is my one and only choice. I needed to be like this not because it is a very fulfilling way to end those painful things, but because somehow, I needed to be like this. People, always doubted the way I act. Almost all of them think that I am a bit too serious for my age.

But, before you think like that, let me tell you this. As I have said earlier, I don't have any choice. I can't loiter around until I want to after school. My mom would always be worrying where on earth I am. I can't just spend all my money on something that I want. It would always make my parents wonder what did I bought. I can't be like you who can drink alcohol and puff a pack of cigar an hour. It will be a huge inconvenience for my parents since my lungs are weak and I am allergic to alcoholic drinks. I can't be like you who can always spend all their allowance on something that they want. I have to save if there's something that I want to buy, we're not rich. I can't be out in the streets until dawn. It would just make my parents to worry even more. The things that I have cited here might be awful to some who will be reading this. But, I thank God, for giving me this body and my parents. Both maybe, are not perfect, but both are just what I needed. Not to survive or live. But to have a life worth living.

We have our own choices in this world, choices that nobody could ever make for us. Even though it may be like a cage for others, for me, this is a sanctuary. Maybe I only have one choice as of the moment, but, I will take that choice life has given me. Even if I have to be like this at an early age, even if many will criticize me for what they think to be true, I won't care. Even if I we're to endure another world of pain, if it's to make my family happy, I would rather take it with open arms. In that way, my smile would just grow wider and brighter. In that way, my family would just stay smiling. In that way, I can grow with an open mind and an open heart. And even if I have lost my true self in this process, I won't hesitate. Since this is my one and only choice, I'd rather make it through this challenge incomplete, than to not make it at all.

Natatakot na din ako...

As promised guys, here's one of the Halloween themed entry for this week. And since it is still two weeks away from Hallow's eve, I am thinking of posting a Halloween themed entry per week. So, here goes.

Halloween, or Hallow's Eve is the time when all frightening entities are said to rise. Some from the graves, most from the dark. To be exact, Hallow's Eve happens on the night of October 31, onto the midnight of November 1. Allow me to take an excerpt from the ever reliable Wikipedia website.

Halloween, also spelled as Hallowe'en as I have said has been an annual holiday or celebration on October 31. It has the roots of Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian's day of All Saints. Basically, for those who doesn't quite get what celtic means, it's the religion of witches or those accused of being witches centuries ago. If you would analyze, Christianism and Celticism are opposing religions. And up to now, Christianism, prohibits their members from doing anything which can be attributed to Celticism or simply to witchcraft. Supposedly it is a holy day for the two religions. But, now, what does Halloween means to us?

Ever since Trick or Treating has been a custom in the Western countries, Halloween has been connected to horror, to fright, to monsters. It has been a nature of human to be afraid of what they don't see. It can be called as instinct. For that, scaring one another when the moon is at its fullest or when it is Hallow's eve has been also a custom (specially for the children). Here in the Philippines, some conyo villages (not subdivisions, they prefer to call it VILLAGES), started this costume party and trick or treat-ing just for their sons and daughters to enjoy the Halloween. And since we are talking about Halloween here, I might as well cite my top three examples of the common monsters or entities that, they say, are lurking in the dark.

*****#3 Witches*****

Back then, the witches are chased out of their homes, and burnt alive in the town plaza, while people are throwing stones at them. Witches are said to bring bad luck to a town or a barrio. Sometimes, they are even being held responsible when a child dies just because of a simple cut or bruise. Witches or wiccans are said to be able to practice magic or magik or magick. Also witches as they say can use these powers to get something that they really want. And most of all, they say that witches are immortal. The most common of witches or wiccans would be, long, crooked and pointed nose, long white messy hair (bad hair day), long and sharp fingernails and most of all, they are always wearing this black cape and pointed hat and that they ride a broomstick.

If these were all true, then, does that mean that there still are witches in this era? Since they are immortal.

*****#2 Vampires*****

Can be considered as one of the most dreadful monsters the world (of fairy tales or horror tales) has ever known. They are said to suck blood out of their live human victims and drain the life out of them. Some also said that if you were bitten by a vampire, you would turn into a vampire yourself. It is also said that vampires cannot drink dead blood, or the blood of those who are already dead or else, they will die. They can't also drink the blood of a fellow vampire for that blood is poison to them. Supposedly, vampires are nocturnal creatures. They can only hunt for their food when the sun is already set. For they are said to burn if the sun touches their skin. Also, based on the tales that most of the books about vampires are telling our generation, vampires are weak against garlic. The only way to kill them is to stab them through their heart with a wooden stake. Apparently, unlike other creatures of the night, which is said to be monsters vampires are the enemy of werewolves (or so they say). This has been a topic for some film in the past, and recently, for Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series.

Like witches, since they are said to be immortal, does that mean that vampires still exist today? If so, then the stories of Count Dracula and An Interview with a Vampire has it's basis. And just for those who don't know, Count Dracula or Vlad III Dracula of Wallachia isn't really a vampire. But a Transylvanian tyrant. His name, Dracula means the son of Dracul or to put it simply, the Son of Dragon. He was also given the name Vlad the Impaler because of the way he uses in defeating his enemies, that is through impaling.

*****#1 Ghosts*****

The most common of all entities that happens to be a gate-crasher during the Halloween. These entities are said to be almost invisible. They can be mischievous and playful at times, but brutal in certain situations. They are said to be apparitions. They may hunt a location or somebody associated with their life or their time of death. These entities are often the topic of most horror films. A ghost has also been the main protagonist in some stories such as Casper and Demi Moore's Ghost. Even Shakespeare has used a ghost in his story lines in his masterpiece entitled Hamlet. Except from exorcism, there are no other known ways to combat a ghost. Since it is almost invisible (or even invisible), it doesn't have a body one can stab to stop it. And it definitely wont burn on fire, since the fire itself would just go through the apparition's body.

Since this has been so damn popular even before, this one may really have some basis. But, it can also be pure imagination. But, the latter would be the reasoning of those who haven't seen one themselves. And since it is so damn popular, even children nowadays are pulled to this mania. They can even tell lies just to brag to their classmates that they have seen one. But, seriously, it's not that easy to see something that you shouldn't have. So, I suggest not to try playing with these entities. They are not toys to begin with.

There you go. Those are the top three entities that scare people during this time of the year. But, if they scare them very much, why do the effort of making costumes that looks like them? Are they making it for fun? Or are they just nuts? But, seriously, this time of the year isn't for fun. First, it would be to show our loved-ones that has passed on that we remember them. Second, it's one of those days that we can be with our family, appreciate them as much as you can. And third, respect those tombstones, I know it's so freaking crowded in the cemetery during Halloween or All saint's day, but, good heavens, don't piss on those tomb stones! The relatives of the one in there are giving it all just to clean that one, and yet you go piss on them?! Shame on you! And since it's that time of the year, enjoy your time at home, watch some TV and wait for the Halloween specials of the programs that usually tackles about entertainment or politics, believe me, you'll enjoy them.
